ZENOVITCH APARTMENT

Over 100 years old history reviewed with the house hotel... The House Hotel Galatasaray, which is the first of The House Hotels, opened in April 2010 in the renovated historical Zenovitch Apartments located in Çukurcuma which is a neighbourhood famous for its antique shops.

Zenovitch Apartments, or Appartements Zenovitch (originally French), was built in 1880 by Milo Zenovitch who was doing business in merchant shipping industry. Milo Zenovitch and his family came from Montenegro (Serbia) and settled in Istanbul when foreigners were allowed to settle here during the Tanzimat (reorganization) period in the Ottoman State.

The family also dealt with shipping business here. The smaller building on the left of the apartments was originally intended for the family themselves to live in whereas the Zenovitch Apartments were rented out for income. The apartments were rented by many people as well as the family members who lived in these apartments for generations. Later on, some of the family members resettled in France while the rest stayed in Istanbul.

HOUSE HOTEL GALATASARAY

Located in the artistic enclave of Çukurcuma famed for its galleries and boutiques, the House Hotel Galatasaray is the ideal location to explore Beyoğlu's bohemian culture and vibrant nightlife.

Renovated by our signature Turkish design collaborator - international award-winning Autoban Design firm - the building retains its original shuttered façade, marble staircase and ceramic tiled reception, while the 20 all-suite, all-double, high-ceilinged rooms are spacious, with striking freestanding showers. The lounge bar on the top floor offers outstanding views over Istanbul's red roofs and the Galata Tower.

The hotel offers boutique hotel qualifications with its 20 rooms in total, 2 of which are penthouse, a historical Galata Tower view and a lounge bar with a fireplace which forms a winter garden atmosphere. Having Mini, Deluxe, Junior, Executive Suite and Penthouse Suite rooms ranging from 28 m2 to 45 m2 which include comfortable armchairs, coffee tables, desks, a plasma TV with local and international channels to choose from, Italian marble use in the bedrooms and bathrooms, organic bathroom relaxing options and complementary espresso and gourmet tea service by excellent “butler” hotel service.

Zenovitch Apartments were abandoned for some time until the owners of The House Cafes included the building in the “hotel projects” and The House Hotel project by Autoban gave the building a new identity. The project lasted a very long time and could be finished in 2 years as the original structure was maintained with a very careful and detailed work.

The architectural character of the building reflects its original structure as much as possible and it was designed with a modern perspective where necessary but lacking parts were also added. The House Hotel Galatasaray creates a modern atmosphere in Beyoğlu with its wood parquet floors, the hexagonal perforated ceiling panels reflected in mirrors and the specially furnished indoors.

Beyoğlu - İstanbul - Turkey

The construction of the building completed in three years between 1898 - 1901. According to the researches; the building was in use of the Serbian Consulate. Designed by prolific Ottoman-Armenian architect Hovsep Aznavur in 1901, the recently restored building has now been classified a historical monument.

In reference to the tax rolls obtained from the General Directorate of State Archives, the name of the building was "the Nile Apartments". The building was designed by the famous architect Hosvep Aznavur. When we check into the other works of the family, we find out that architect Aznavur also designed Abbas Halim Paşa Mansion (today’s Mısır Apartments), Abbas Halim Paşa Chalet in Heybeliada, the seaside residence of Princess Rukiye in Kanlıca and Helvan Palace belonging to Abbas Halim Paşa in Egypt.

OCCIDENTAL PUBLIC HOTEL

The Public Hotel which is one of the rare historic buildings of Beyoglu, offers you 52 high-ceiled guestrooms of which 21 were decorated in neoclassic and art nouveau styles and a spacey courtyard. The Public Hotel is located in the very heart of Istanbul’s most popular and dynamical boulevard, Istiklal Avenue where inholds matchless cultural richnesses, an ever-vibrant nightlife, colorful and numerous alternatives of recreation and entertainment.

The Public Hotel is the typical example of the late 19th century Istanbul architecture. The restoration of the building which is a first-degree historical monument, was carried out under the supervision of an advisory committee consisting of experts in their subject and academicians especially leagued together for this project in conjunction with the Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board by showing regard to some significant points such as structural reinforcement, load-bearing system security, scientific preservation and restitution, fire safety, architectural history and geotechnical evaluations.

In the course of restoration works, the insertions and fittings of poor quality such as plaster, paint etc. which did not exist in the original architecture of The Public Hotel, were all cleared away and the building was rehabilitated back into its initial form which reflects the authentic architecture of its period. The opening glass roof upon the courtyard at the top of the building was another important constituent of the renovation works. This system enables the lobby floor and some of the guest rooms to receive sunlight directly. The aforementioned courtyard was specially designed considering the today’s hotel guest portfolio.

Furthermore, there is floor heating system in the bathrooms.

As you can see the characteristics of the 19th Century architechture in all of our high-ceiled guestrooms, the historical structure was brought into comformity with today’s technology by using all the hi-tech appliances and equipments to make life easier and answer the needs of our guests.

ATİK ALİ PASHA PALACE

Former 19th-century Ottoman palace known as Atik Ali Pasha. Built as a secondary residence near the Sultan’s principal summer palace on the Bosphorus converted to a Four Seasons hotel in 2008. Atik Ali Pasha Palace at the Bosphorus occupies a former 19th century Ottoman palace known as Atik Pasha. It was one of a group of several palaces originally referred to as the Feriye Palaces, built as secondary residences along the Bosphorus’ European coast near the Sultan’s principal summer palace.

Atik Ali Pasha Palace impressive, symmetrical façade faces the Bosphorus. At night, the frontage is lit by flaming torches - a spectacular welcome for those arriving for dinner via the Hotel’s private, waterfront dock. A 190 m (623 ft) wide promenade extends in front of the palace building. It is landscaped with lawns and gardens, bar pavilions, seating areas and a large pool with open views across to the forests and yalis that line the Asian shore.

FOUR SEASONS BOSPHORUS HOTEL

Two modern accommodation wings flank the back of the original palace. Designed as contemporary interpretations of old civic architecture, they include wooden windows and copper roofing with stone and stucco finishes. Together, the buildings line three sides of the landscaped gardens, steps and driveway that descend amongst cascading pools, fountains and mature trees from Çırağan Road to the Hotel’s lower, glass-covered entrance.

The Hotel’s interiors are inspired by their surroundings : shades of aqua, silver and taupe reflect the shimmering hues of the Bosphorus, whilst light marble and cool blue glass impart the freshness of a coastal resort. Throughout the Hotel, prints of the 18th century engravings of artist, architect and voyager, Antoine Ignace Melling, recall the glamour of the Bosphorus of old.

Decorative geometric motifs, hand-painted ceiling details, Turkish carpets and interesting marble inlays showcase the talents of local craftsmen and imbue an air of understated, Ottoman elegance. Achic city retreat on Istanbul’s glorious seafront, this converted Ottoman palace is surrounded by indigo waters and mountaintops. Visit the place where East meets West and the past meets whatever's coming next. Stimulating days and vibrant nights await.

Along the Bosphorus, in one of Istanbul's trendiest and most naturally beautiful neighbourhoods, find a former 19th-century Ottoman palace transformed into a hotel sanctuary of luxury and comfort.
